The tank and the piping was built as a part of distribution terminal for liquid nitrogen fertilizer – urea (UAN), situated in Kluizendok approx. 200 m from Zeekanaal canal and 3 km from Zelzate. Besides storing steel tank there is also a horizontal plastic tank and pumping and distributing station on the premises of the pumping station.
Concentrated urea is imported on ships and stored in the steel tank. Later it is diluted by water and pumped to railroad or truck cisterns or it is transported by trucks.
Records and curios:
- The tank was finished a full month before a deadline stated in PD - During coating the tank was completely covered by transparent foil (approx. 3,000 m2) - Due to unsuitable ground (sand and dirt) the tank area had to be covered by a 30 cm layer of gravel to allow operation of a crane and land transportation including trucks (see fig. 3) - After hydraulic test a temporary piping of total length of 400 m had to be built.
